Platinum Girl

Is "Real Housewives of New York City"'s Bethenny Frankel Really Acting Like a "Platinum Girl"?

Of all of the Real Housewives of New York City, the one with whom I most identify is Bethenny Frankel. We are both writers, she is a Scorpio like I am, has a big mouth like I do, and is working hard to build a brand like I am. I felt awfully for her during her father's death and a nonstop fight with Jill Zarin. I kept thinking, "focus on yourself, hopefully Jason will propose." Which is exactly what happened.

Undoubtedly, there were times Bethenny could have done a bit better and been less confrontational in some of her exchanges with people. She also did not need to relay messages to Jill through Alex McCord. However, on the whole, she handled herself very well given the situation.

So, why do I think that Bethenny is a Platinum Girl?

1. After several attempts to make amends with Jill, Bethenny gave up and moved on. In life, there is only so much that a person can do to make up with a friend after a fall out happens. Platinum Girls recognize when you are unable to change a situation. The answer is to accept your powerlessness, remove your ego, and let it go. This applies to everyone - men, friends, family, co-workers, and acquaintances.

Further, the more time spent focusing on others leaves that much less room to focus on yourself. Bethenny realized this about Jill and went back to taking care of herself, no longer attempting to force a solution. Ultimately, Bethenny's hands off approach worked given Jill later made overtures to become friends. Sometimes when you walk away in life, what you wanted so badly will make its way back to you.

2. Even though she lost her best friend, Jill, Bethenny started becoming even better friends with Alex, Ramona Singer, and Sonja Morgan. There's a quote that says to "look to your left, then look to your right, you will know who is in your life". Platinum Girls do not shut down emotionally and isolate themselves. She finds others with whom she can carry on friendships. Bethenny soon realized that Alex and Ramona were supportive and always willing to listen to her during her father's death. Surrounding yourself with good friends during difficult times makes it that much easier to move on from life's "Jill"s.

3. Saving the best for last, Bethenny is Jason Hoppy's Platinum Girl. Despite meeting at a night club, their first meeting was pretty perfect. The New York Daily News reported that Jason "walked up to [Bethenny] after noticing the attention that she was receiving from the photographers." It is always best when a man notices and approaches a woman first. What it demonstrates is that he must have you. Jason had to have Bethenny so badly that he listened to hours of stories about the fighting between Jill and she.

Then People magazine ran a story about how after 11 months of dating, Jason proposed. As I have said before, a man knows whether he wants to marry a woman within one year. Even when watching Bethenny's Getting Married, Jason is incredibly protective of her and initially did not want a straight assistant working in their home. Despite all of Bethenny's problems with Jill, she came out on top. She now has her own family, TV show, is a published author, the list goes on.

The lesson here is that no matter what happens in life with friends and family, never let it get you down so much that it interrupts your work. Too much precious time can be lost when it would better be spent being productive. Forging ahead is a must and the result will always be the betterment of oneself.
